Équilibre Christmas Gift Guide – For Foodies

I think Christmas gift giving should be all about that little something special. It doesn’t have to be expensive,  just thoughtful, unique and something the receiver wouldn’t usually buy for themselves. New tastes and gourmet treats are a good choice and can be truly savoured and enjoyed over the holidays – a chance to slow down and really appreciate the good things in life. Homemade goodies fit the bill nicely, but when you don’t have time to cook or create, here are some favourite local picks to satisfy and surprise the foodies in your life…

Rochelle Adonis: If you’re looking for something a bit special and delicious, this one is hard to go past! Gorgeously packaged nougat, marshmallow, festive mince tarts, baby christmas puddings in cups, brandy anglaise, to name only a few of the delights on offer. Rochelle uses only the finest ingredients and word has it that they started soaking the christmas cake fruit in french cognac back in March! Order online, or pop in to the Brisbane Street studio. Our Fitness for Foodies members have the chance to win some of Rochelle’s delectable treats this week, (if they last that long!)

The Seventh Duchess: Luxury loose leaf tea for contemporary tea drinkers. I’m dying to try La fête de Noël (pictured above) - a pretty and fragrant tea, reminiscent of a Christmas pudding! Buy online, or find them in an exquisite collaboration with Rochelle Adonis in a ‘pop up shop’ at 43 King Street, Perth until 16th Dec 2012.

Studio Bomba: Our special designery folk friends have done wonders with their little shop on Oxford Street this year and you can find all sorts of whimsical ideas for food loving folk too, including beautifully designed storage bags for fresh produce from Harvest Haversack (herb version above, top right).

Arthur Wines: Fortified wine just got stylish! With either the Ruby or Glass Slipper, these are not as sweet or as heavy as traditional ports, but are lovingly crafted by wine maker Tash Arthur. Tash wants to reinvent fortifieds for a new generation of food and wine lovers, and with the retro, roller derby inspired labels (helped out with design by Studio Lost & Found) we think she’s at least half way there!

Bahen & Co Chocolate: (pictured bottom right) Oh my, this is what chocolate should be – an experience! Right down to the gorgeous packaging. Read this interview with Josh Bahen and watch this video and just see if it changes your thinking about what real chocolate should be.

Kookery: Practical fun for your kitchen and home – delightful tea towels and prints for the kitchen with bold images and a quirky sense of humour. We love them! (pictured above, centre right) By the way, have you read my interview and recipe on Amy’s lovely blog?

OR, if you really want to think outside the box (or maybe even inside of one!)…

Dinner Twist : A super thoughtful gift subscription for the new year (read all about how it works here).  They even have a lovely gift pack on offer at the moment to put under the tree (including the Kookery tea towel pictured above!)

Urban Locavore: A tasting box full of local produce and treats. The December box will be released shortly and is full of all the classic products from over the past year (non-perishable so you can put it under the tree!) These guys are doing a fabulous job and we can’t wait to see what they bring us in 2013.

Happy gift giving and may you make many more wonderful foodie discoveries than I have been able to list here!
